03/31/09 - New CD Kenesaw Mountain Landis drops today!
We are pleased to announce that the new Solyoni album Kenesaw Mountain Landis is now available! Each compact disc comes in hand-printed packaging, and only 150 copies exist on the planet Earth. We're very excited to share these new tunes with you. More details to come... but for now, head on over to the online shop to pick up the new CD! For those living in the Pacific Northwest, we invite you to join us this weekend for CD release parties in Portland (April 3) and Seattle (April 4). Visit the shows section for more info.

01/09/09 - Happy 10th Birthday Solyoni!
It was exactly 10 years ago today that Dan Lurie and Dominic Aulisio simultaneously learned how to butcher an E chord on the guitar. That was all they needed to hammer out a rather unusual song called Sasquatch Housekeeper. The session took place in a 7th floor apartment in Athens, Ohio. The song was immediately forgotten by both players, but the act of picking up the guitar marked the birth of a band.

Thanks to everyone who has played with us and supported us throughout this journey. We've been lucky enough to collaborate with a laundry list of great fiends with immense musical talent: Aaron Semer, Robert Lurie, Jon Kilian, Chris Pierson, Jose Sandoval, Dave Nash, Daniel Dominic Mancini, Shannon Handy, Jess Abel, Chris Croft, the early lineup with Bethany Gordon, Brian Kokai, and Leslie Keffer, and quite likely more that I'm forgetting at the moment. Special thanks also goes out to the many folks who have helped us transform from an open mic oddity to an elevated-stage oddity capable of producing shrink-wrapped compact discs: Matt Ashworth at NadaMucho.com, Mike Toschi of At the Spine and Global Seepej, Adam Fox at Foxlab/ajfox music, and so many others.

What does the future hold? Well, around the first of April we're releasing our third official full-length, "Kenesaw Mountain Landis," with back-to-back CD release parties in Portland and Seattle on April 3rd and 4th. At some point this year, we'll also be assembling a DVD that captures 10 years of live performances. Surely there will be more music down the road, but you can never predict when or how inspiration will strike. In the meantime, the Portland version of Solyoni will be playing live wherever and whenever it can.

More than anything, this little hobby of ours has served as a great way for friends to keep in touch. Thanks to everyone for listening to our tunes and checking in from time to time. To our fellow musicians, band mates, friends, and fans, we hope you've enjoyed the first 10 years as much as Dom and I have.

07/24/08 - NEW VIDEO: Exclusive footage of Solyoni rehearsing new songs
This haunting surveillance video reveals Solyoni performing a new song entitled "Soap Box Car Crash" in their Portland practice space.

In related news, recording is going very well. We have the makings of 12 songs laid to tape so far, with more to come...

04/01/08 - Exclusive Photos from the Desert Sessions!
Last month, Solyoni brothers Dan and Robert Lurie ventured deep into the Arizona Desert, seemingly without purpose or compass. Our camera crew followed, then provided us with these images documenting what really happened during that fateful lost weekend. Here's a hint: it had something to do with recording an album and, against all odds, eating hushpuppies. Visit the Visual Diary section for an alarming Desert Sessions photo essay.

12/30/07 - Holiday Treats in the Audio/Visual Section!
Head on over to the Audio/Video page to pick up your Holiday presents. This year, Solyoni offers up two new MP3s: Pancho & Lefty (featuring pappy David Lurie!), and Fold a Paper Aeroplane (from Solyoni's album-in-progress Kenesaw Mountain Landis). We've also posted a bevy of new videos. Enjoy!

07/19/07 - Solyoni Sponsers Mongolian Race Car
This one's for you racing fans. In a desperate attempt to gain further recognition across the globe, Solyoni has stooped to the level of sponsoring racecars. That’s right, our lovely name will be affixed to the sputtering Subaru driven by team Mr. Dinosaur in this year’s Mongol Rally. The Mongol Rally is a 10,000-mile race for charity (and adventure) from London to Mongolia. Kind of like the remake of Rat Race, but without the Smash Mouth concert. Anyway, we are quite proud to be an official sponsor of Mr. Dinosaur. Please take a moment to visit their website where you can make charitable donations and follow the team’s misadventures on their frequently updated blog.

Now, let us all pray for Josh, Andrew and Mims – Team Mr. Dinosaur. God speed men.

06/17/07 - Robert Lurie Sings the Solyoni Masterworks
Head on over to the audio section for a very special treat! Robert Lurie -- quite possibly Solyoni's most mysterious and elusive contributor -- has completely reinvented several Solyoni classics using an 8-track cassette recorder, a pile of thrift-store instruments, and a dangerously wild imagination. Check out Robert Lurie Sings the Solyoni Masterworks!

05/17/07 - Vanilla Clown 7" Has Arrived!
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Vanilla Clown Vinyl Release Party last weekend! We had a lovely time blowin' it out da box with Jordan O' Jordan, The Daguerreotypes, and our clown-eating partner in crime Kyle Sowash. Yes the 7" platter is now available. Head on over to the Solyoni online shop to purchase your copy of this limited edition release today! We appreciate the support. This thing's a real piece of work, literally. For those of you who missed the release party, here's video footage of Solyoni performing Vanilla Clown live. Enjoy!

04/08/07 To celebrate the start of the 2007 baseball season, Solyoni is slashing prices on all merchandise in our online shop. We're calling it the SPRING CLEANING SALE! All CDs, including last summer's breakthrough release The Princess Market, are now selling for the ridiculously low price of $5! There's never been a better time to buy the music of Solyoni. Don't let this opportunity slip away. We want you to have this music. Seriously, please take it.

In other news, we are pleased to announce that the Solyoni / The Kyle Sowashes Vanilla Clown split 7" will be released in grand fashion with a live concert on Saturday May 12 at the Mars Bar in Seattle. (See news blurb below for details on the project.) If you live outside the Seattle area and you're desperate to get your hands on a copy of this limited edition slab of vinyl, head over to the shop right now. We're hosting a Vanilla Clown presale so you can reserve your copy before they're all spoken for.

12/12/06 Exciting news! Solyoni is teaming up with Ohio band The Kyle Sowashes for a split 7-inch petroleum vinyl release set to drop in May of 2007. The single will be entitled "Vanilla Clown," and it is a conceptual art project of sorts. Several years back, Kyle Sowash of The Kyle Sowashes was visiting Seattle. He and Solyoni's Dan Lurie went to a Baskin-Robbins to savor some ice cream. It was then that a young boy ordered a vanilla clown, the beloved upside-down ice cream cone delicacy. With the most innocent and adorable voice one could imagine, the boy started describing how he was going to eat the clown. His words were so morbid and disturbing, Lurie felt the need to write them down in a pocket notebook. Sowash and Lurie then decided they would each write a Vanilla Clown song using the boy's words as the lyrics, but neither artist would hear the other's song until both were complete. Currently, Solyoni and The Kyle Sowashes are in the process of recording their respective songs which will be pressed on opposite sides of a platter sometime in the next few months. We'll be sure to post further details as they become available to us.

12/07/06 This Saturday, Solyoni plays the Comet Tavern as part of the Global Seepej Records 10 Year Anniversary Party! Global Seepej is run by At The Spine ringleader Mike Toschi, a man who will sacrifice life and limb for his and his friends' art, literally. He is an inspiration to us all, and has played a significant role in Solyoni's remarkable rise to fame and fortune. Toschi's annual Global Seepej parties have become the thing of legend, if for no other reason than someone always goes home injured. Please join us, and perhaps you will be the one leaving the bar on a stretcher this year. Unrelated to the promise of violence, free beer is always offered at these events, and this year is no different. The first 100 pints of PBR will cost you nothing, so show up early for some free cold ones and for Solyoni because I believe we will be the first to take the stage right at 9pm. The show is sponsored by our handsome friends at NadaMucho.com.
Thanks for the love and support. We hope to see you Saturday!

10/15/06 Thanks to the world wide web, and the U.S. Postal Service, the sounds of Solyoni have spread to the furthest reaches of the globe. Here's proof. We recently got word that a mysterious man living in the uncharted woods of Shadyside, Ohio took such a liking to the Solyoni tune "Pink Cotton Dress," that he decided to cover it. His name - Bill Albatross. His version - heartfelt. Please visit Mr. Albatross' MySpace page to hear his interpretation of this Solyoni fan favorite.

8/11/06 Thank you to everyone who helped make our CD release party a sold-out success. We were overwhelmed by the turn-out. Thanks to Ariel and Jeff at the Rendezvous and our tall strapping friends at NadaMucho.com for helping us put on the event. Touchdown Eagle, we're honored that you came out of hiding to share the stage with us on this memorable night. And let's not forget Jeffrey, who wisely took a nap during the show so he'd have enough energy to make two heaping batches of famous nachos at the afterparty. It was a glorious night, and yes, fear not, it was all captured on film and video. We will post a thorough page of multimedia documentation in our Visual Diary section soon. For now, just live with the memories, and the refried bean aftertaste.

7/10/06 Greetings simian brethren. After a fitful hibernation, fraught with night terrors and exhausting bouts of somnambulation, Solyoni has re-emerged – cleansed and pure of heart, and with a freshly-squeezed album in hand.

You’ll notice we’ve done some major remodeling around here to coincide with the new release and, well, because it was about time. Having realized that the band members had long outgrown their cherished bunk beds (Chris Pierson is growing like a weed, and Jon Killian has grown into a completely new person altogether!) we knew Mother Nature was gently prodding us to make a few changes. We added a few rooms, got some fancy indoor plumbing. We even pulled up the old shag wallpaper, discovering, to our surprise and delight, the long concealed floorboards of an ancient whaling vessel…which Dan promptly lacquered over with this lovely cream varnish. After months of rigorous, unscrupulous researching, we compiled data, documented results, and then manipulated the data to suit our needs. According to our studies, this cream tone glowing from your browser window is the most soothing compliment to our unnerving melodies. Bask in it. Let it fill your bones. Embrace the egg-nog hue and just let it all go.

While you're poking around the place, don't forget to swing by our online shop. We've opened our doors early so you can purchase the new album, "The Princess Market," today, yes, before the release date. As long as the store manager doesn't find out, we're cool.

Over the coming weeks we'll continue to update our newly refurbished home in preparation for the album's official release and also our CD Release Party on Saturday July 29. Visit the shows page for details on that.

Thanks for stopping by.
